Storm water runoff conveys large amounts of toxic, nutrient and sediment pollution into the Chesapeake Bay.  With an ever increasing amount of impervious surfaces in the landscape surrounding the bay, storm water has become a significant problem for bay ecosystems that needs to be corrected if the bay is going to recover. Your challenge is to:

1)   Create a project proposal with a budget of $5,000 that will minimize or eliminate the impact of storm water at a location on your campus and
2)   Create display materials to communicate why this issue is important, how your project addresses it and how this type of solution could be applied to other locations.

Projects will be assessed in the following categories:

  1. Feasibility for completing the project within the budget
  2. Storm water reduction potential
  3. Effectiveness of the communications plan
  4. Use of environmental best practices (use of native species, repurposing of storm water, etc.)
  5. Community engagement
